Language Learning

Language Learning

Today has been rather interesting... I went to see my doctor who had to repeat everything twice or thrice to allow me understand the simple French being spoken: how will you pay, etc.
Words I have heard before, I might add.

I studied French for years and thought I had adequately mastered the language to survive comfortably,in any francophone (French speaking) country. Ha!Little did I know that I've been lying to myself...

Knowing the words in your head does not equal speaking them aloud..

My advice to language learners, SPEAK! Practice! You can't get enough of it.
That's the best way to learn...by practicing the words that you learn so they come alive and become permanent.

Keep learning...There's hardly a dull moment if you do...

  1. This is so true, and I can totally relate to it. "Knowing the words in your head does not equal speaking them aloud" - that sentence says it all. We're often easily deceived into believing that we have knowledge of some things, forgetting that non-application of what we "know" makes us "less knowledgeable". I best take the advice. Practice is the word, and constant practice does make perfect!
